1. Spirituality

Regardless of your religion, it is vital to understand that you and your son or daughter, though struggling with autism, are children of God. He loves us more than we can imagine, and we have a divine inheritance. The more we understand Him, the more we understand our own amazing potential.

Because spiritual matters may seem abstract to young, autistic, concrete thinkers, it's important that we teach by example. Your child will learn more by watching you than by listening to what you say. Through the love you share, your child can feel God's love for them too. Because none of us is perfect and raising a special-needs child is stressful at times, we need regular spiritual nourishment and His guidance.

Even if a child can't accept a physical hug, loving them unconditionally, as God loves them, is the single most important "therapy" we can provide. We'll share ways we can show our love and teach our children to serve others. We'll also talk about ways we can increase our spirituality and help children with autism to more fully understand God's teachings.
